Zeno' Voltumna 2021
Artisanal"Zeno" by Voltumna is a fresh and rustic red wine from the Florentine territory that combines the noble elegance of Pinot Noir with the strong class of Sangiovese. The result is a smooth and very pleasant expression, with great balance and delicacy, played on fresh and fragrant sensations, with light tannins and a very expressive bouquet, telling notes of berries, cherry, Mediterranean scrub, and memories of underbrush.
Voltumna presents ‘Zeno’, a nimble and graceful Tuscan red wine, resulting from an unusual blend of Sangiovese and Pinot Nero. The first grape variety represents the enological pride of the Region while the second, considered one of the most precious black grape varieties, thrives when cultivated in cool territories, such as that of the Mugello mountain community, where the Voltumna Agricultural Company is located. The winery's production philosophy follows the tenets of biodynamics, with an absolute ban on herbicides, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers, in respect of the land and the consumer. The name of this bottle comes from the word “zen”, which means “life”.
The ‘Zeno’ of Voltumna is crafted from a blend of Sangiovese and Pinot Nero, sourced from two different plots located 300 meters above sea level. In the vineyard, the principles of biodynamic agriculture are applied, and the harvest is carried out manually. The alcoholic fermentation, carried out by indigenous yeasts only, takes place in tanks of steel, where aging also takes place. The wine is finally bottled without undergoing either clarification or filtration.
To the eye, Voltumna ‘Zeno’ has a light ruby red hue. On the nose, it evokes scents of marasca, cherry, currant, and Mediterranean herbs, which combine with memories of earth and underbrush. The sip is fresh, fragrant, and smooth, pleasantly rustic with delicate tannins. An atypical and immediate expression, capable of revealing a new face of Tuscany, enhanced by the artisanal production vision of the winery. For its natural freshness and dynamism, ‘Zeno’ pairs splendidly with various cured meats, such as the traditional finocchiona.
