Trebbiano Spoletino 'Anteprima Tonda' Antonelli San Marco 2023
Organic and biodynamic"Vigna Tonda" is a white wine from Umbria that comes from a local grape too often forgotten in the past, but with great potential, Trebbiano Spoletino, vinified in ceramic, with skin maceration. The aromatic profile consists of notes of tropical fruit, citrus peel, dried apricots, and sweet spices. On the palate, it reveals itself as round and generous, enhanced by a crisp freshness and a slight tannin.
The Trebbiano Spoletino “Vigna Tonda” from the Antonelli San Marco winery is one of the most interesting expressions of this historic Umbrian grape variety, which has been rediscovered in recent years and is proving to possess excellent qualities and remarkable versatility in the field of winemaking. To create this label, the path of vinification in ceramic dolium with skin maceration was chosen, in order to obtain an intense, rich white wine with a particularly complex character. A label born to enhance a company cru and to highlight the potential of a grape variety still to be discovered.
“Vigna Tonda” Trebbiano Spoletino is born in one of the most famous wineries in the Montefalco area. Antonelli San Marco manages an estate of 170 hectares, of which about 50 are dedicated to viticulture. In addition to Sagrantino, Sangiovese, and Grechetto, for several years Filippo Antonelli has been passionately working on Trebbiano Spoletino. The grapes come, in fact, from the eponymous vineyard, a true company cru, already present on a map from 1902 of the Antonelli estate. In the same place, a circular vineyard, using a mass selection of Trebbiano Spoletino from old plants married with maples. The vineyard is located at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level with a westward exposure. At the end of the harvest, the bunches undergo spontaneous fermentation without temperature control, with a long skin maceration in ceramic containers. Before being put on sale, the wine ages for a few months in wood.
“Vigna Tonda” represents a new challenge for the Antonelli San Marco winery, which has decided to dedicate a new project to an indigenous grape variety of the territory that has been forgotten for too long. It is one of the most interesting white grape varieties in central Italy, already much loved by the most attentive and curious enthusiasts. Its beautiful golden yellow color tells of a ripe and rich wine. The skin maceration imparts intense aromas of yellow fruit, hints of citrus peel, floral nuances, and aromatic herbs. The sip, broad, rich, and satisfying, captivates with juicy fruit, well balanced by vibrant acidity and a saline finish. One of the most interesting macerated wines in the Italian landscape.
