Schiava 'Vernatsch Fass Nr. 9' Girlan 2024
"Fass Nr 9" by Girlan is a fresh and delicate Schiava from the Val d'Adige, aged in steel and matured for a short period in oak barrels. Juicy notes of berries and red flowers move along a subtle spicy line. The taste is fresh and velvety, irresistibly smooth and gentle.
The Schiava “Fass Nr.9 Vernatsch” encapsulates refined aromas, a prelude to a sip that is always satisfying, caressing the palate with a tannin that is present yet always finely integrated into the soul of this product. Girlan, a production reality operating amidst the tranquility of the Alto Adige Dolomites, brings this label to life only in particularly favorable vintages, which reflect 100% the quality standards sought by the winery in the indigenous Schiava grape. This almost exhausting pursuit of quality leads to a truly elegant bottle, which can be further aged in the cellar for a couple of years.
The “Fass Nr.9 Vernatsch” by Girlan is a pure Schiava that comes from vines with an average age of around 30 years. The vineyards are located around the village of Cornaiano and the hamlet of Colterenzio, at an altitude of about 450 meters above sea level, and the terroir, with its hilly profile, is characterized by glacial moraine and gravel residues from the Ice Age. The manual harvest selects only the best bunches, and after pressing the grapes, the must ferments in stainless steel containers. The aging phase then continues, lasting 5 months and taking place in large oak barrels.
This “Fass Nr.9 Vernatsch” develops in the glass with a bright and luminous color, reminiscent of ruby. The nose offers a blend of subtle and delicate sensations, moving through a progression of fruity notes and forest spices, from which emerge also light touches leaning more towards floral. On the palate, it is delicate, with a remarkable concentration of perfectly blended tannins to the overall structure and a sip endowed with good freshness. A label that is produced by the Girlan winery only in exceptional vintages, to ensure the consistent quality that has always characterized it.
