Pinot Nero 'Sonnenberg' Meyer-Nakel 2021
Meyer-Nakel's Pinot Noir 'Sonnenberg' is a red wine of great elegance produced in Germany's Ahr area. The aging for 16 months in barrique gives it deep notes of tobacco and black pepper, accompanying the intense aromas of ripe red fruit, lightened by slight mineral and floral notes. The palate is juicy, warm and enveloping, characterized by a light smoky and spicy note on the finish, long and very persistent
The Pinot Nero “Sonnenberg” is one of the best labels from the Meyer-Näkel winery, which traditionally pays particular attention to the cultivation of the noble Burgundy grape. The estate is located in Germany, in the Ahr region, which has always been suited for vine cultivation, since the ancient times of Roman colonization. Over time, the French grape has proven to adapt very well to the particularly mild climate of the area. The result is a very elegant and harmonious red, characterized by aromas of small red berries, floral nuances, and delicate spicy hints.
The “Sonnenberg” Pinot Nero from Meyer-Näkel is made with grapes coming from the Sonnenberg area, classified as VDP Grosse Lage, a designation reserved for the most prestigious plots in Germany, comparable to French Grand Cru. The old vines are cultivated on very steep slopes perfectly exposed to the south, ensuring many hours of light and perfect ripening. The area is located at an altitude of 100-150 meters above sea level and enjoys a temperate and always well-ventilated microclimate. The soils are composed of loess rich in slate stones. The vines are managed with low yields and are hand-harvested. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and a maceration on the skins of about twenty days. The wine ages for 18 months in oak barriques, 70% of which are new, and for another 6 months in bottle.
The Pinot Nero “Sonnenberg” produced by the German estate Meyer-Näkel comes to life in one of the warmest places in the region. A characteristic that helps to give reds with a sunny and ripe face, with dense and satisfying aromas. In the glass, it presents a ruby color with bright garnet reflections. The olfactory profile is elegant and intense, with aromas of red currant, cherry, wild strawberries, hints of underbrush, humus, spicy notes, and slightly toasted. On the palate, it is broad and full-bodied, with deep aromas and fine, well-integrated tannins. The sip is long and balanced, with a very persistent finish.
