Rare winesThe Pinot Noir Aia Vecchia is an elegant expression of Pinot Noir produced in Tuscany, in Massa Marittima, where Fabrizio Niccolaini and Patrizia Bartolaini, who were already making wine with the Massa Vecchia winery, purchased and restored an old farmhouse, planting half a hectare of Pinot Noir. Vinified in cement and aged in glass amphorae, this Pinot Noir gives a rich, juicy, savory and slightly astringent sip, while the nose offers scents of berries, herbaceous and balsamic hints. A rarity, with a very limited run, to be kept for special occasions
The Pinot Nero from Podere Aia Vecchia is a Tuscan interpretation of a great grape variety with a pure and artisanal soul, the result of a particular processing in limestone and glass demijohns. Podere Aia Vecchia is located in Massa Marittima, in the province of Grosseto, and is passionately managed by Fabrizio Niccolaini together with his wife Patrizia Bartolini, former owners of the artisanal winery Massa Vecchia. The couple decided to purchase this tiny agricultural estate with the intention of producing cheese from Jersey breed cow's milk, while simultaneously taking care of a tiny vineyard of 6,000 square meters planted with Pinot Nero.
Aia Vecchia comes from only grapes of the same name grown on soils made up of cavernous limestone, located at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. The agronomic management is based on highly sustainable practices and the harvest is carried out strictly by hand. In the cellar, the bunches are vinified in red in open limestone tanks, containers in which alcoholic fermentation occurs entirely spontaneously in contact with the skins. For the subsequent maturation phase, glass demijohns are used, and the wine is finally bottled without undergoing any filtration.
In the glass, the Podere Aia Vecchia Pinot Nero displays a beautiful bright ruby red color. The aromatic profile consists of scents of berries, flowers, and aromatic herbs that meet mineral and balsamic nuances. On the palate, it is rich and flavorful, with juicy freshness and appetizing tannins that combine in a persistent savory and slightly astringent finish. A genuine and unconventional red from Tuscany, unfortunately produced in very limited quantities.
