Fattoria Le Pupille Morellino di Scansano Riserva is configured as a balanced and articulated interpretation of this denomination from Maremma Toscana. It is the label that represents the roots of Fattoria Le Pupille, the first wine produced and marketed by the estate in 1978 within the newly established regulations of Morellino di Scansano, reserved for red wines produced mainly with Sangiovese, in the local biotype Morellino. Originally, the bottle was named 'Rosso di Pereta', after the homonymous hamlet of the municipality of Magliano in Toscana.
The Morellino di Scansano Riserva by Fattoria Le Pupille is made from a solid base of Sangiovese, to which 10% of Cabernet Sauvignon is added. The grapes come from the vineyards La Carla, Maiano, and Bozzino, where the altitudes range from 50 to 250 meters above sea level. Here, the soils are predominantly composed of sandstone, with abundant presence of skeleton and galestro rocks alternating with layers of red clay. The harvest is carried out in the second half of September for Sangiovese and at October for Cabernet Sauvignon, with the bunches being crushed in stainless steel tanks for controlled temperature alcoholic fermentation, associated with 25-30 days of maceration on the skins. Once the fermentation process is completed, the mass undergoes 15 months of maturation in large oak barrels of 10, 20, and 40 hectoliters.
In visual examination, the Morellino di Scansano Riserva from the wine reality of Fattoria Le Pupille shows an intense ruby red color with violet flashes. Crunchy hints of red fruits and flowers characterize the aromatic spectrum along with balsamic, spicy, and herbal perceptions. The tasting is soft and full, with a pronounced fresh-salty push and fine tannins that herald a finish of good persistence on the sensations of the olfactory.
