The Nicasia Vineyard Malbec from Bodega Catena Zapata is part of the prestigious range of wines from this important Argentine winery. The estate is located near Mendoza and has many plots situated at altitude, in areas characterized by a cool climate and significant temperature variations. The Nicasia vineyard is one of the most prized of the entire estate and is located in Mendoza in the Uco Valley at an altitude of about 1000 meters. The soil consists of a gravelly and clayey surface layer, with a stony substrate made up of large stones from an ancient dry riverbed. The poor and highly draining soils are perfect for cultivating Malbec, which in these conditions produces grapes of excellent quality. After harvesting, the clusters undergo a cold maceration and are then subjected to fermentation with a skin maceration of about three weeks. The wine matures in French oak barrels for a period of 16-21 months.
The red Malbec Nicasia Vineyard from Catena Zapata is the expression of a single plot of the estate and highlights a particular facet of the high-altitude terroir. An excellent quality bottle, to be enjoyed during an important dinner featuring grilled meat or fine roasts. Of a dark ruby red with slight garnet reflections, it expresses an intense and rich bouquet, with aromas of small dark berries, vegetal nuances, soft spicy notes, hints of bitter cocoa, roasting, and graphite. On the palate it is structured and enveloping with silky tannins and complex, persistent aromas that lead to a long and harmonious finish.
