Lagrein Riserva 'Porphyr' Cantina Terlano 2022
Rare winesThe Lagrein Reserve “Porphyr” from Cantina Terlano is one of the greatest expressions of the main indigenous red grape variety of South Tyrol, Lagrein. After 18 months of aging in barrique, it reveals elegance, structure, complexity, and a very spicy aromatic profile, with notes of licorice, coffee, chocolate, and berries.
The Riserva “Porphyr” is born from a wise selection of Lagrein, an indigenous grape variety that Cantina Terlano assembles starting from three different plots, where the average age of the vines is around 100 years. Low yields therefore, which make each berry rich in extracts and organoleptic properties, perfect for giving rise to a bouquet characterized by intense aromas, a prelude to a compact sip, in which structure and elegance move harmoniously. A label that can be enjoyed now, but promises to evolve further over the next five years.
This Lagrein Riserva “Porphyr” is born from the pure use of an important indigenous red grape variety from Alto Adige, Lagrein, cultivated by the Cantina Terlano team in three selected vineyards, where the average age of the plants is very high, reaching up to one hundred years. The grapes grow rich and full of properties and extracts, and, once harvested during the vintage, they ferment slowly at controlled temperature, in stainless steel tanks. Then we proceed with the aging process, during which the wine rests for 18 months in barrique, new for one third.
The red “Porphyr” is a Lagrein Riserva that, in the glass, announces itself with a deep color, reminiscent of ruby, crossed by light reflections tending towards violet. The olfactory spectrum revolves around layered and rich sensations, starting from fruit and shifting towards enticing spicy nuances. On the palate, it has excellent body, broad and enveloping, round thanks to a finely integrated tannic structure, characterized by a savory taste, where the spices already perceived on the nose are found. A label with which Cantina Terlano delights the palate, receiving excellent scores in Italian and international trade magazines.
