'Katamacerato' Elios
ArtisanalThe "Katamacerato" by Elios is a Sicilian orange wine that comes from a maceration on the skins of Catarratto for about a week. The grapes come from the old vineyards cultivated in Monreale and give birth to a very expressive and artisanal nectar, the result of a vinification and aging in steel. Notes of spices, apricot, brackish effluents, nuances of hydrocarbons and hints of honey introduce a drinkable, fresh and pleasantly rustic sip, with a slight tannin.
The “Katamacerato” by Elios is the latest creation from the Sicilian winery, a brilliant Orange Wine that combines salty drive and brightness. Well done to the guys at Elios, a young reality born in the northwestern part of Sicily and immediately becoming a reference point for lovers of artisanal wine, thanks to extremely personal interpretations that are also faithful readers of the territory. The intent is immediately clear and precise, namely to produce identity wines, cultivating only local indigenous grape varieties such as Nero D'Avola, Catarratto, Grillo, and Zibibbo, which share a serious and meticulous approach to viticulture, without the use of any chemical or synthetic substances. A reality that is a true gem, characterized by a constantly forward-looking perspective but that has drawn as much as possible from a strongly rooted local tradition.
The wine “Katamacerato” is obtained from pure Catarratto grapes, coming from old 35-year-old vines located in Monreale and cultivated without the aid of any substances other than a bit of of copper and sulfur. If in the vineyard the approach is therefore that of minimal intervention possible, in the winery it continues with equal sensitivity, therefore all alcoholic fermentations take place spontaneously and in the case of Katamacerato, there is a 7-day maceration in contact with the skins of the grape. The liquid ages for 7 months in steel tanks.
The “Katamacerato” Elios presents itself in the glass with an enchanting deep orange color edged with golden reflections. Intense and expansive nose, ranging from hints of spices to orange peel, from apricot to briny breezes, and is constantly marked by a mineral note in the background. The sip is rich and has remarkable length, as the undeniable tactile substance is contrasted by a proper measure of freshness and sapidity. Well-rounded.
