Cheverny Rouge 'Hauts de Madon' Christian Venier 2021
ArtisanalThe Cheverny Rouge "Hauts de Madon" from the producer Christian Venier is a soft and light red wine made with a blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay. The whole bunches ferment with indigenous yeasts in a tank of cement and resin, the grapes are subjected to carbonic maceration and bottled unfiltered. The main aromas that go back to the nose are notes of aromatic herbs such as thyme and rosemary, hints of berries and earthy scents.
The Cheverny Rouge ‘Les Hauts de Madon’ from the French vigneron Christian Venier is configured as a label with an irresistible juicy and velvety taste. The Cheverny area is located northeast of the Touraine region, in the Loire Valley. Here, white, rosé, and red wines are produced, the latter made from a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir, sometimes enriched with small percentages of Cabernet Franc and Malbec. In this context, the production philosophy embraced by Christian Venier has always been purely artisanal, aimed at maximum respect for nature and the singular expression of the terroir.
Christian Venier ‘Les Hauts de Madon’ Cheverny Rouge comes from a 70-30 blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay, cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The grapes come from the lieu-dit ‘Les Hauts de Madon’ and rest on clay-limestone soils with abundant silica. Following the manual harvest, the whole bunches are placed to ferment spontaneously in cement tanks, achieving thus a carbonic maceration capable of enhancing the more fruity and fragrant character of the wine. The subsequent maturation period also takes place in cement tanks, where the mass rests for a few months before bottling, which occurs without prior filtration and without any addition of sulfites.
To the eye, the ‘Les Hauts de Madon’ Cheverny Rouge by Christian Venier expresses an intense garnet red color. On the nose, aromas of berries and aromatic herbs such as thyme and rosemary overlap, assisted by earthy and spicy echoes. The sip, soft and fresh at the same time, surprises with grace and juiciness, as well as the finesse of the tannin. A bottle that pairs well with aged cheeses and grilled meats.
