The "Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill" is a legendary Champagne, which has become an absolute reference point in its category, distinguished by class and complexity. The flagship cuvée of the Pol Roger winery can only take its name from the English Prime Minister Winston Churchill, whose favorite wine was indeed that produced by the famous maison. A story of tradition and passion, with centuries-old roots, as the first wines produced by Pol Roger date back to 1849, although they were for third parties. In 1900, Pol's sons officially founded the well-known winery that today consists of 88 hectares of vineyards, located among the most prestigious crus of the Valle Della Marna, the Cote Des Blancs, and the Montagne de Reims. The style of the Maison favors rich and creamy bubbles, without distorting the character of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
The Champagne "Sir Winston Churchill" comes from a blend predominantly of Pinot Noir and the remaining part of Chardonnay, in order to combine robustness and elegance. Produced only in the bestvintages, it involves the separate vinification of the two grape varieties, which takes place for both in steel and at controlled temperature. After malolactic fermentation, the base wines are blended to initiate the second fermentation, which occurs in the bottle and in the deepest cellars of the Maison, located 33 meters underground. The aging on the lees for about 10 years gives depth and richness, making the Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill a Champagne of rare complexity.
The Brut "Sir Winston Churchill" appears in the glass with a light golden color and a very fine bubble. Enchanting nose, captivating from the first sniff: clarified butter, brioche bread, acacia honey, and hazelnuts. It combines incredible complexity with a convivial and indulgent demeanor. Every second spent in the glass increases its richness, which reveals itself little by little, enticing to taste. Sip of incredible concentration and creaminess, fills the mouth with a material of very fine texture, a perfect blend of salt and structure.
