The Brunello di Montalcino “Poggio al Vento” represents the pinnacle of the Col d'Orcia winery and one of the most prestigious labels in the entire Montalcino area. It comes from a true company cru, which, due to its particular pedoclimatic conditions, has always produced superior quality grapes, with more elegant, rich, and complex aromas. To always maintain a high level of production, it is made only in particularly favorable vintages, capable of expressing exceptional wines. Careful vineyard management, vinification, and aging conducted with patience and rigor allow us to offer enthusiasts an extraordinary Sangiovese.
“Poggio al Vento” is the Brunello di Montalcino from the famous estate “Col d'Orcia,” one of the most important realities of the Ilcinese territory. The vineyards are located in the area of Sant’Angelo in Colle and have been managed since 2010 following the principles of organic farming. The mild climate, with Mediterranean influences and good temperature variations, is very suitable for the the cultivation of red grape varieties, particularly for Sangiovese. The cuvée is the fruit solely from the Poggio al Vento vineyard, located in the central area of a hill, at 350 meters above sea level, overlooking the Orcia river. The south-facing exposure, always very ventilated, and the suitable soils allow Sangiovese to express itself very well. At the end of the harvest, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28 °C, with a maceration on the skins of about 20-25 days, accompanied by periodic pump-overs and délestage. In the wine, malolactic fermentation occurs in cement tanks and it ages for 3 years in Allier and Slavonian oak barrels of 25 and 75 hl, followed by a bottle aging period of 16 months.
