Berzmèin Rio Rocca - Il Farneto 2021

The Berzmèin from the small winery Il Farneto is an exciting expression of the Marzemino grape: a soft, juicy, and very balanced red wine, produced in accordance with ancient and healthy farming practices. The production philosophy that Il Farneto has inaugurated with the line of wines called Rio Rocca indeed involves biodynamic management of the vineyards, spontaneous fermentations, that is, without the inoculation of yeasts, the rejection of filtration and clarifying substances, and a minimal use of sulfites.

The Berzmèin is made from healthy and ripe bunches from biodynamic cultivation, hand-harvested in the plain of Farneto, in the province of Reggio Emilia, at 250 meters above sea level and near the valley of Rio Rocca. The grapes are destemmed and pressed, and the must is transferred to steel tanks, where fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and skin maceration for 8 days. After racking, malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously, and the wine rests on the fine lees for over 12 months in French oak tonneau, without clarifications or filtrations.

This Emilian interpretation of Marzemino reveals itself on the palate as having good structure and great drinkability. In the glass, it releases aromas of berries and wild spices. The taste is soft, fruity, and enveloping, characterized by a good freshness that gives it elegance along with a great gastronomic vocation.
