The Bas Armagnac Hors d'Age by Dartigalongue is a distillate with a classic face, a perfect expression of the most typical and traditional style of great Armagnac. It is a blended Armagnac from multiple vintages with different characteristics, which find the right harmony, freshness, and balance in the union of complementary traits. It expresses itself with rich and intense aromas, a decisive and elegant profile. The sip has great taste persistence, with notes of dried fruit, balsamic sensations accompanied by the softness of caramel. Excellent to accompany a chocolate fondant. A must-try with foie gras.
The Hors d'Age is produced in the countryside of Nogaro, in the historical heart of the Bas Armagnac region. The Dartigalongue family cultivates the three classic grape varieties of the area, which provide the base wines for distillation: Ugni Blanc gives fruity and spicy notes, Baco provides structure, and Folle Blanche contributes elegance and floral finesse. The vineyards are located on predominantly sandy and clayey soils, which help produce subtle and fine wines. At the end of of fermentation, the wines rest for a while and are then sent for distillation with a continuous low-temperature still, which preserves all the scents and aromas. The barrels for aging the Armagnac are made by local cooperages using oak from Gascony. The aging process is divided into two parts: a first period in dry woods, which help soften the youthful edges of the distillates, and a second period in wet woods, which provide harmony and softness to the Armagnac.
The Bas Armagnac Hors d'Age Dartigalongue embodies the traditional face of this great French distillate and the style of the Domaine. Like all blended labels from multiple vintages, it expresses the classic taste, unaffected by the particular climatic trends of a single vintage. In the glass, it presents an intense antique gold color. On the nose, it expresses a bouquet with aromas of ripe yellow fruit, dried fruit, soft sensations of caramel, hints of vanilla, noble woods, and memories of eucalyptus. The taste is rich, with an intense and warm entry that anticipates a persistent and harmonious finish.
