Barbaresco 'Tradizione' Marchesi di Barolo 2022
The Barbaresco Tradizione by Marchesi di Barolo is a symbolic and highly appreciated red wine, characterized by a harmonious, austere, and fleshy profile. Notes of ripe red fruit, sweet spices, toasted textures with floral and menthol hints enliven a body of great class and intensity, equipped with a good tannic structure and an extremely long finish
The Barbaresco "Tradizione" Marchesi di Barolo is the wine that best represents the centuries-old history of this renowned excellence of the Langhe. Contrary to the more recent trends that favor labels from single crus, the Barbaresco "Tradizione" is a bottle produced according to the oldest traditions of the Langhe. The Nebbiolo grapes are harvested from different vineyards in the denomination area, which have various exposures, altitudes, and characteristics. A choice that allows for harmonious and pleasant wines every year, less tied to seasonal climatic variations.
The "Tradizione" Barbaresco from the historic Piedmontese winery Marchesi di Barolo is produced with grapes from the estate's vineyards cultivated in Guyot in the hilly area of Barbaresco, on rather steep and well-sunned slopes. The soils are composed of calcareous-clay marl, with the presence of quartz sands and very fine silt, which gives the reds profiles of great finesse and elegance. Once the harvest is completed, the grapes are quicklybrought to the winery, destemmed, and softly pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with a maceration on the skins lasting about 8 days and frequent pump-overs. The wine is then transferred to vitrified cement tanks, where malolactic fermentation occurs. This is followed by a maturation period in large Slavonian oak and French oak barrels. The wine completes its long aging with a few months in the bottle before being put on sale.
The Barbaresco "Tradizione" Marchesi di Barolo is an ideal label to understand the general characteristics of the wonderful terroir of Barbaresco. In the glass, it presents itself with a bright ruby color with slight garnet reflections. The olfactory profile is characterized by floral scents of withered rose and violet, aromas of small forest fruits, spicy notes, and balsamic nuances. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with a stern and deep sip, fine tannins, and a long and persistent finish.
