The "Jefferson" Amaro Importante from Vecchio Magazzino Doganale is a Calabrian liqueur that represents the symbolic label of this artisanal distillery. It all began with the discovery of a manuscript by the owner's grandfather, a victim of a shipwreck on a ship commanded by a captain named Jefferson. The captain decided to stay in Calabria to produce an amaro that still bears his name today. Thus was born the the desire to bring back to life the ancient recipe of the amaro, to renew its legend as a tribute to the memory of Captain Jefferson and the grandfather. The production is the result of a careful selection of herbs, fruits, and spices characteristic of the Calabrian coast. It represents the most authentic face of the flavors of this splendid southern land.
The Amaro Importante "Jefferson" made by Vecchio Magazzino Doganale is produced with passion, following the oldest traditions with pure grain alcohol, infused with bergamot absinthe, vanilla, grapefruit, bitter orange, sweet orange, lemon, rosemary, oregano, rhubarb, gentian, and eucalyptus. At the end of the extraction of all the natural essences, white cane sugar is added. Before bottling, the liqueur is filtered only with linen cloth, so that it can preserve its organoleptic characteristics intact. The liqueur presents itself with an amber color, with dark reflections. On the nose, it expresses very intense aromas of medicinal herbs, wild herbs of the Mediterranean scrub, orange, citrus peel, and hints of soft spices. On the palate, it is broad and warm with a long sip, which opens up to sweet softness and closes on fresh and slightly bitter notes.
